Washington Association of Nurse Anesthetists (WANA)

Larry Lysne Scholarship Fund

AANA Foundation Scholarship established for Larry Lysne

Larry Lysne, CRNA served the WANA membership on multiple committees and as a board member starting in 2005. In 2006, he volunteered to serve as Federal Political Director (FPD), setting the bar for future FPDs.

Under Larry's guidance, the WANA delegation successfully brought CRNA issues and concerns to the forefront during visits with legislators in Washington, DC. His ability to develop relationships with members of congress and their staffs in a highly professional, personable, and relaxed manner was extraordinary.

As a clinician, Larry was an exceptional mentor to students in the SHMC/GU program and was being groomed to become program director, until health issues forced him to resign from practice.

To define courage and perseverance, one only needs to observe Larry's example of how he functioned as a CRNA and as FPD. Unless you were made aware, you would not know that during his last two visits to the hill in DC, Larry had been suffering from a progressive and debilitating spinal cancer, essentially with a paralyzed leg. He only expressed he was having difficulty with a weak knee. Larry passed away on May 14, 2011.

There are few we will see in our careers who are CRNA advocates at such a high level and as selfless in the face of suffering as Larry Lysne.

To honor Larry, the WANA Board of Directors and Membership has established the Larry Lysne Leadership Scholarship through the AANA Foundation. For those of you wishing to donate to this fund in his memory, please send it the AANA office at:
